After every stage the frame gets a check for square and a cold forming if required, which is most of the time. What strikes me is how easy these metal joints and tubes are to deflect and yet how strong they are when the bike is whole.
I made a mistake. I neglected to put the bar into the head tube before I started fillet brazing. Luckily this was spotted before I had gone too far, but not before it had lost it’s perfect circularity. I turned up a tight fitting bar with a gently chamfered end to drift into the pre warmed head tube and hopefully right the wrong. I loved turning the bar. I haven’t been on a metal lathe for almost 30 years. Still got the magic.
